Who can get this

You may be able to get an Annual Medical Assessment (AMA) if you have Qualifying Operational Service in Viet Nam.

Qualifying Operational Service explained

What you can get

This allows you to have a free medical assessment from a medical practitioner every year.

How to apply

March 2025: We've updated the application process to make it easier for you.

If you live in New Zealand:

  • Step 1 Book an appointment with your GP

When you know it is time for your Annual Medical Assessment, you will need to book the appointment with your GP.

Ensure that your GP’s practice knows the appointment is for an AMA.

We recommend booking an hour-long or double appointment so your GP has enough time for a thorough assessment.

  • Step 2 Attend the appointment

Your GP will have access to the form required online. They will fill out the form on your behalf and send it directly to us.

It’s also a good idea to set up an annual appointment for your AMA so your GP practice will remind you when that appointment is coming up.

  • Step 3 We will then contact you

We will contact you after we have received and processed your application.

If you do not live in New Zealand:

For New Zealand Viet Nam veterans living outside of New Zealand, the current paper AMA form remains the same.

To apply, contact your case manager and ask them to send a form to you.
