We may be able to fund travel for you to visit someone in long-term hospital care.

Who can get this

You may be able to get this if you're related to someone with Qualifying Service who has been in hospital longer than 28 consecutive days.

You must be their:

  • spouse or partner
  • child
  • dependant.

You may still be able to get this — even if you're not related — if we think it is appropriate.

What you can get

Travel for Visitors of Veterans in Long Term Hospital Care is a financial reimbursement.

It has a limit of NZD$2,000 in a twelve-month period.

How to apply

You'll need to provide us with evidence such as:

  • documented evidence such as a discharge sheet confirming the hospital stay was 28 consecutive days or longer, and
  • tickets or receipts that show both the date and amount of travel.
